We’re looking at MailChimp. MailChimp is an autoresponder email marketing service.
Email Opt-in Web Forms
You put these little web forms on your website so people can give you their email address in exchange for what you’re offering, such as a “free email marketing strategy guide.”
Let’s start with some of the good things about MailChimp. MailChimp is perfect for someone that’s new or has a relatively smaller advertising budget because MailChimp will provide you with a free account.
There are a couple of little catches to this: it has to be fewer than 2,000 subscribers, and you can only send twelve thousand emails per month
You say twelve thousand that sounds like a lot but in reality if you have two thousand subscribers that’s really only sending six emails because every one of those six times two equals twelve thousand.
Over that it’s a very reasonable fee of ten dollars, and then it goes up to $15 only when you’re really looking at huge huge massive list — you have some real expenses there.
If you’re not generating twenty dollars off of a list of over a thousand people you really need to go in and change and look at some of the ways you’re using email marketing.
Let’s go ahead and look at MailChimp negatives. I have two complaints about Mailchimp. If they changed the first one I’d be really happy.
Creating MailChimp Opt-in Signup Forms
First, they don’t provide you with custom signup forms — the opt-in forms in which people enter their email address.
Having said that, MailChimp is a great service to use, especially to start building a list and start getting exposed to email marketing and how best to do it.
One of the neat things about MailChimp is that they offer you a little email signup that you can put on your Facebook business page.
This is nice, because now we can collect people’s email address, first name and last name from Facebook.
This is one of the cooler features I’ve seen from MailChimp that’s not on every other email marketing service.
Let’s go ahead and just look at a general form. All we have to do is click.
A/B Testing Web Forms
Split test and they’ll give us the code.
This is the same code we paste to put any one of those forms on the website.
But this code right here we’ll split two different web forms so it’ll test this web form versus another design.
It’ll split test it and it will tell you which web form converts into more sign ups.
The Money is in the List
The size of your list is one of the most important indicators of how much money and income you can draw and pull out from your list.
You want a bigger list, you want more and more people to sign up for your list.
Let’s just look at some numbers real quick.
Let’s just say you have a thousand visitors to your website or the see your marketing message every day.
Now you may only have ten visitors, that’s fine, but let’s just just for example, let’s say we have a thousand visitors.
Let’s say this one web form converts at a one percent.
So one percent of those people will result in ten people added to your list every day over the course of a month.
That’s about 300 people over the course of a year.
We’re talking about 3,600 people.
So let’s use the same example.
Let’s say we split tested and we found a web form that converts at two percent.
That’s twice as good.
So that means we have 20 leads every single day.
Then over the course of a month, that’s 600 leads.
Over the course of a year we’re talking about 7,200 leads versus the 1% which was 3,600 leads a year.
That’s a huge difference. A massive difference.
Then when you start looking at email marketing, I mean really your email marketing messages — let’s go crazy here and let’s say you have 7,000 people on your list.
Let’s say you’ve already tested your web form but your email marketing messages.
Let’s say you have a a 15-percent open rate, which is really really, really good, especially if you’re talking about a list of 7,000 people.
15 percent — that’s a thousand people opening your email message — that is huge.
The idea with email marketing is you’re really playing the numbers.
The fifteen percent open rate is massive, and then to actually get people to click… let’s say just some way you’re able to get fifty percent of those people that open your message to actually click through — because what’s your real goal and objective is with your email message is to drive traffic and send traffic to either an article about for example the mail jump email marketing service or to a sales letter or to a product or a service review.
MailChimp Opt-in Form Conclusion
MailChimp offers everything you need to gather email addresses from potential customers. They have embedded forms and popup forms, the two most used on websites. They also have a Facebook opt-in form, which we’ve used with great success.
